ICYMI: The biggest (Shopify) news of the year so far

We're launching a new series, the Color and Code Chronicle! In the series, we look back at the last few months to share the most important updates from Shopify and Color and Code. Because in the world of development, there are constant changes, and the arrival of AI has definitely upended this already fast-moving industry, with the lead of Shopify. We’re also proud to look back at some of our most important website launches.
All about Shopify
To kick things off, we collected some of the most exciting updates and statements from Shopify.
Shopify doubles down on AI
First things first, Shopify announced its 2026 Spring Edition, which comes with significantly expanded AI capabilities and solutions to make automation smarter and easier than ever. They are also taking significant steps to serve B2B and B2C clients, wherever they are. If you would like to know more about the novelties, read it here.
Shopify Exec talks about the future
Thanks to our sister site, we also had a chance to glimpse how Shopify thinks about the present and the future. As Deann Evans, Managing Director of EMEA, said in an exclusive interview with Kosárérték, shopping habits across Europe have fundamentally changed, and Shopify is well aware of this. In her exclusive interview with Kosárérték, she also emphasized that in this fast-changing situation, unified commerce and AI-driven storefronts will reshape growth, and companies that adopt AI more quickly will gain a significant advantage. Read our summary here.
AI-driven theme updates
An AI-related update that can give an edge to early implementers is custom designs. Replacing rigid, single-layer sections, Shopify’s modular architecture now enables complex page layouts with nested blocks up to 8 levels deep. Merchants can build these custom product layouts manually or describe them to Sidekick using simple natural language.
Multi-Source & Variant Collections
The company also introduced some seemingly minor but, in the everyday lives of merchants, very important functions in the last few months. One of them is that Shopify is now moving beyond basic automated rules and manual picks; it now also lets merchants mix rules, app feeds, and nested collections. Stores can also target specific variants, eliminating messy duplicate listings, complex workarounds, and third-party apps.
Market outlook
We also took a look at the market in general because there were some very interesting movements and changes in the last few months.
B2B grows fast, but companies are missing out
We also like to look at the market in general, and we have to say that, as time goes by, it’s becoming increasingly important to notice how quickly B2B e-commerce is changing. According to Shopify’s data, business-to-business e-commerce grows 8 times faster than B2C, but this fact is still often overlooked by companies. In our article, we shared tips for determining whether your company is falling behind.
Easy withdrawal EU-wide
It’s impossible not to mention that a very important change came into effect mid-June. Since then, every e-commerce store must have “a withdrawal function that is easy for the consumer to find, continuously available and clearly visible during the withdrawal period.” Most companies (especially the ones using solutions like Shopify) are ready for this change, but if you’re not sure about it, you can read our extensive post about this new legal requirement.
Our most important launches
Last but not least, we’d also like to (re)share some of our recent Shopify launches that we’re particularly proud of.
Beverages from Heinemann
The first on our list of high-profile projects we completed is the new, modern website for the leading beverage distributor, Heinemann Testvérek. The new site features a deep integration with their ERP system, making their everyday lives much easier.
Wineries and opportunities
We also built a new website for Veszprém Archbishop's Winery. We’re especially excited about this one, since we believe the wine industry has an outstanding e-commerce opportunity, yet many vineyards are missing out.
BENU renews its website with us
Last but not least, we also launched BENU Magyarország’s new online store, helping them create a truly omnichannel experience that helps people access the care and products they need with ease and safety.
