Heinemann Testvérek Shopify Migration
Project Background
Heinemann Testvérek primarily focused on wholesale and corporate clients. To strengthen their market position, they decided to renew their former custom-built online store and switch to a modern system that delivers an exceptional user experience and integrates seamlessly with their enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
Objectives
One of the main objectives of the development was to serve customers with a store that is in constant, real-time connection to their existing ERP system, Microsoft Business Central. This allows them to manage everything in one place, within the ERP, and the online store retrieves all data from there, radically shortening administrative work. In addition, the goal was naturally to serve customers through a modern, clean, and user-friendly interface.
Part of these special requirements included:
- Real-time and deep data and ERP integration, which allows almost all processes to run from one center, the ERP system. The new e-commerce store retrieves multi-layered product attributes from here, such as photos, descriptions, stock inventory, tax data, and glass deposit return scheme (DRS) parameters.
- Dynamic frontend design partially controlled by the ERP: the appearance of the site is largely determined by information arriving from the ERP, such as product and category fields. The Shopify system dynamically handles brand pages, as well as various recipe, product, and blog post recommendations.
- The creation of complex metafield structures was necessary to meet the two requirements above. The formulation of development requirements and the provision of consulting services were an integral part of Color and Code's work.
- Development of a complex loyalty system: the Heinemann Testvérek site uses a multi-level, real-time system, supported by different marketing activities. This system was created in Shopify Flow for speed and stability.
- User-friendly and secure delivery: a crucial industry requirement is that beverages ordered by customers arrive predictably and intact. That is why we used Delivery Gateway on the Heinemann Testvérek site, allowing customers to easily and transparently select the most suitable delivery method.
- Data migration and cleansing: Heinemann Testvérek previously worked with a custom-developed store, whose existing data (user accounts, purchase history, etc.) had to be migrated to the new system after being cleansed to ensure full synchronization with their ERP system.
Result
The development resulted in a significantly faster and more user-friendly, Shopify-based online store serving Heinemann Testvérek’s B2C customers. Furthermore, the system is in real-time connection with Microsoft Business Central, so products only need to be managed in one place, and the result is immediately visible to users. Initial feedback shows that users reacted positively to the changes immediately, as reflected in the conversion numbers.
Unique, Industry-Specific Requirements
DRS: handling of the deposit return scheme
As with other industry websites, handling DRS (glass deposit return scheme) fees was required for Heinemann Testvérek. The situation is complicated by the fact that the regulation specifies different fees for various packaging types, and the fee does not even apply to wines younger than a certain vintage, for example. However, the fee must be displayed transparently during checkout and on the official invoice.
