Veszprém Archbishop's Winery

Veszprém Archbishop's Winery Shopify Store

The Veszprém Archbishop's Winery approached us to refresh their previous static website. They wanted a modern e-commerce platform that would not only convert but also effectively convey the wines' history and flavor profiles while building the brand. These expectations are becoming increasingly important in the wine industry.

Project Background

The Veszprém Archbishop's Winery, which has existed since 1277, wanted to renew its website and replace its static system with a modern store. One that can serve customers in line with today's demands. Given the nature of the wine industry, it was particularly important for the website to build the brand (strong visual language, presentation of the winery's background) while also being an efficient, high-converting e-commerce store.

Objectives

The main goal was to create an online store that not only aims to "convert" but also conveys the winery's history and the background of its high-quality wines. This is a particularly important and frequent expectation for wineries, as brand building is becoming of paramount importance in this industry. These specific expectations included:

  • The new site must meet all e-commerce expectations, yet remain “wine-centric,” meaning portfolio-like
  • Presentation of the wines' special flavor notes, with strong visual support where possible
  • Ability to handle unique product logic, such as vintage, which often poses a challenge for industry e-commerce stores, is important for users, and is not negligible from an SEO perspective
  • Support the sale of non-physical products as well, since the sale of gift vouchers, wine tastings, and tickets for other events is becoming increasingly important in the industry
  • User-friendly and safe delivery, as one of the most important expectations in the industry, is that ordered products arrive predictably and intact. This is why we embedded the Delivery Gateway solution, which allows customers to select the most suitable delivery method simply and transparently

Result

We created a thoroughly modern Shopify-based website for the Veszprém Archbishop's Winery. We crafted a unique look that perfectly fits the company's image and tastefully presents its premium products. The design also enables the winery to tell the story and unique character of its wines, which is rare among similar online stores. This digital "catalog" was combined with Shopify's exceptionally converting e-commerce engine.

Unique, Industry-Specific Requirements

Although it is now legally mandatory, many industry players still do not, or incorrectly, handle the DRS, i.e., the bottle deposit/return fees. The situation is complicated by the fact that the regulation only applies to wines younger than a certain vintage and is VAT-exempt. This fee must, however, appear transparently during checkout and on the official invoice. We made all of this possible for the winery by embedding and customizing a unique plugin, ensuring they have a store that operates correctly and lawfully in every respect.
